Around 1855, Dédé moved to Paris to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He studied with some of the leading musicians of the day, including Delphin Alard and Fromental Halévy. In 1858, he graduated with a first prize in violin.


He made his career as a violinist and conductor in Bordeaux where he got married also and later in 1860, he became the assistant conductor at Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux and remained one for 20 years.

In addition to all the above stated things, Dédé was also a very prolific music composer. His compositions weren’t that famous when he was alive but currently they are some of most played ones. He became a pioneer in his field despite the constant discrimination and racism.
